Road Alligators are the pieces of tire that are lying on the side of the road. They are called Road Alligators because when a car runs over them they can come up and bit you, and they kind of look like alligators. One day, driving down the road I noticed that it looked like the pieces of tires were placed nicely in the medians of the road. Then I started to think about how these tire pieces got placed like that.

First the tires come off of a car or truck into the middle of the road. Then car after car hits the pieces of tire and they move then back and forth on the road. There are two things that can happen when a piece of tire gets hit on the road: one is the tire moves off the road to where it does not get hit any longer or two it moves to a place where it will get hit again. In the end the tire pieces will gets hit so much that they are obliterated into tiny pieces or the tire piece gets moved off to the side of the road.

I believe that evolution works in the same way when an organism is placed into a new harsh environment.

The only way an organism will be able to be live in its new harsh environment is to adapt. The organisms that do not adapt will keep being hit on the road until they are extinct. Organisms that do adapt in a reasonable amount of time will be the pieces of tire that bounce back and forth on the road until they finds a niche where they can live (off the road).
